To my Greek Orthodox Rite Followers, Καλά Χριστούγεννα!  To My Russian Orthodox Rite Followers,  С Рождеством! To all others, Happy Orthodox Christmas!

[Iconostasis Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, Chicago, Illinois, USA]

For all men and women of good will and at such a special Season of the year, but especially for my readers who follow the Orthodox Rite, wherever you are from

or from wherever your family came, a very special Christmas Day greeting to you.

Nothing can say that better than this evocatively tender, powerfully and wonderfully moving piece by a very young (b. 1978), exceptionally-gifted and  talented young Norwegian composer, Ola Gjeilo.

When the world is in crisis, Serenity succours the soul.

O magnum mysterium

Et admirable sacramentum

Ut animalia viderent Dominium natum

jacentem in praesepio!

Beata Virgo, cujus viscera

meruerunt potare Dominum Christum.

O great mystery

and wonderful sacrament,

that animals should see the newborn Lord

Lying in a manger!

Blessed is the Virgin whose womb

Was worthy to bear Christ the Lord.

Happy Christmas.
